A Star Is Born

When Lupita Nyong’o took home the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Oscars on Sunday night for her heartrending performance in 12 Years A Slave, she ensured her place in history. She joins an illustrious crowd of former winners, including Cate Blanchett, Judi Dench, Vanessa Redgrave, Ingrid Bergman and many more. Even more impressive, Nyong’o’s win was for her first performance in a feature film, something to which only an elite few can lay claim.

And yet, at the grand old age of 31, she is amazingly down to earth – her Oscar speech was one of the most gracious of the night – and she comes across wonderfully in interviews. I for one am very much looking forward to seeing where she goes from here (although I’m not sure that even she will persuade me to watch Non-Stop)…
