Top Ten: In Plain Sight

Every year the British Film Institute’s Sight & Sound magazine puts together a poll of the best of the best of the previous year’s cinema. The poll brings together the opinions of international contributors to the magazine, plus the magazine’s editorial team and contacts in the industry – 111 in all. Unlike other lists, no distinction is made between documentary and feature films – the list is limited only to those films that viewers have seen in the past year, whether on the festival circuit or in the cinema.

After all the opinions have been aggregated, the Top Ten is as follows:

1. The Act of Killing
2. Gravity
3. Blue is the Warmest Colour
4. The Great Beauty
5. Frances Ha
=6. A Touch of Sin
=6. Upstream Color
8. The Selfish Giant
=9. Norte, the End of History
=9. Stranger by the Lake
