How Soon Is Too Soon?

It’s barely October and already the talk is turning to the awards season – in particular, the likely winners and losers at this year’s Oscars.

Every year I attempt to watch all the films nominated in the main categories before making my judgment. This approach seems to work – last year, I got 15 out of 21 right, including five out of the six main categories.

However, just for fun (and because everyone else seems to be doing it*) here is my wildly unreliable guess at the top six for this year before having seen any of the contenders:

Best film 12 Years A Slave
Best director Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity
Best actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, 12 Years A Slave
Best actress Cate Blanchett, Blue Jasmine
Best supporting actor Michael Fassbender, 12 Years A Slave
Best supporting actress Amy Adams, American Hustle

Check back nearer the time for more measured suggestions!
